Happy New Year 2013! Our New Year’s Resolution? Out With the Old, In With The New!

One of my favorite moments of the New Year is getting the chance to look around my home and decide which pieces of furniture have become worn out  and what needs replacing. The rule of thumb to live by is if you don’t love it, get rid of it, or give it away to someone who may absolutely adore the piece you are tired of.

This is a lot harder to do than it sounds, but if you want to maintain the home of your dreams, start this yearly ritual as soon as you move into a new home. Your efforts will pay off handsomely. Sometimes we are torn between “liking” a piece and truly “loving” a piece. Toss it immediately if the answer isn’t a resounding “I just love this piece and cannot live without it!”

Let’s look at some new furniture  and accessories from Treasurecombers.net that will give your home the 2013 updated look for the new year. A simple mirror or wall sconce can set the tone for a brand new look that will be uplifting and make any room feel like it just got a new make over.

Try on an exiting “Bird on a Silver Leaf Branch” decorative mirror. This is all you need to create a new mood instantly and may I say this mirror is an exiting piece that you will truly love.

Another style choice for the less eclectic decorator is this stunning star burst mirror and one of my most favorite tricks for updating  an outdated room.

Wall sconces? So chic and easy to place for just the right ambiance.

Contemporary candle sconses like this lovely sconce by Carolyn Kinder, or Old World style with this Tuscan hand forged metal candle holder, they bring a room some chic and stylish focal points.

Now I am going to need you to be completely honest with yourself about your living room chairs. How old are they really? Do you still love them as much as the day you bought them, or are you , like me, a bit tired of the colors, seeing they are in need of some gentle repair and I have to say, I am just plain tired or looking at them! A new chair is the antidote for any winter blues, SAD ( Seasonal affective disorder) or just a wonderful pick me up on a dark, snowy winter’s evening. Here are some great chairs  all just waiting for you to  choose from.

Who can resist a cozy armchair with an ottoman to prop up your feet and just relax?

You can get your New Year 2013 off to a brand new start with just a little tweaking  and some careful selections from Treasurecombers.net. You don’t have to redo your whole house, unless of course you have the means and the time to invest, but with a few smart new pieces you can update and refresh your entire living space. So get busy and out with the old, and in with the new!

Until Next Week,

Happy Decorating!

Leaner Mirrors – A Dramatic Design Statement

Looking for a way to  to open up a narrow space? Need to add some light  and a bit of drama to a so, so bedroom or living room?  A leaner mirror will satisfy all these design dilemmas in a snap! Leaner mirrors can be the final touch that brings a room to life with its large reflecting surface, creating the illusion of more space and filling a room with extra light and brilliance.
Narrow spaces get an elongated and open look with the addition of a leaner mirror and one of my favorite reasons to LEAN a mirror is the ease and simplicity of installation; just find the right spot, adjust the angle and finished!

A large, empty wall space is another fine use of leaner mirrors. You can decide to hang them right on the wall or experiment with the way they look gently propped up against a big space adjacent to a window to really amplify the lighting .This is  also a wonderful way to bring the outside landscape or view inside.

Who wouldn’t love this contemporary leaner mirror in a bedroom or hallway? What an elegant and sophisticated way to create a signature look for a Paris Chic or Hollywood Glam theme. Another plus for using leaner mirrors is you don’t have to make a mess of your walls with nails and hooks and if you are renting, well no need to make a permanent hole in your landord’s wall. There is also the ease of changing your mind if you think it would look better in a different spot.

Here is another great contemporary look from Treasurecombers.net.  This really reminds me of a Hollywood Regency decorator’s dream. One of the best features of Leaner Mirrors is that you can change your mind on a whim and place it in a different spot or a different room. All you need is a bit of muscle power to move the mirror to create an entirely new perspective.

From Tuscan styling, to Old World and Traditional, there are some excellent choices in wonderful finishes and sizes to compliment all your design dreams at Treasurecombers.net. Apartment dwellers  should really consider the leaner mirror to make a small space appear larger and rest easy with a  home  purchase that will travel with you when you relocate or finally buy that little house in the country. A leaner mirror will truly light up an ordinary space and make it pop with personality and pizazz.

I can’t think of any space that doesn’t look a little bit more elegant or well put together with the addition of a mirror. Bedrooms are sexier, living rooms and dining rooms perk up and even a kitchen can use a bit of reflective lighting from a well placed leaner mirror.

I hope you enjoyed the tips for buying and placing a leaner mirror. If you haven’t thought of using this great decorator’s tool before, maybe you will look around your home with a new eye and I bet you will find the perfect place for that  perfect leaner mirror!

Until next week,

Getting Creative with Wall Mirrors

Mirrors are not just for the bathroom and bedroom. There are so many great ways to utilize wall mirrors in decorating. Some of my favorite uses for a well chosen wall mirror or a grouping of mirrors start with the entryway or vestibule.  This is the perfect spot for a mirror like this one.

Right away you set the style and tone of your home. The first thing you see when you enter your home is a well put together space that says a lot about who you are.  Choose a style that goes with the rest of your décor and makes a statement about the inhabitants of this home.

Perhaps you are more conventional. These mirrors with their simple rectangular or round shapes are the choice for you.

Decorating a vacation cabin or a beach house? Try these fabulous nature inspired mirrors from Treasurecombers.net. I love the birch bark edging on this one. I can see this hanging over the stone fireplace or in the wood paneled bath.

Shells are so glamorous. Nature’s outdoor décor, if you will. This is a great mirror for a bathroom, or a nautical inspired themed bedroom or living room.

Some great decorator’s tips include using a mirror for a dark room to bring in more light and visually double the space. Always be sure to check the reflection of the mirror too. You want to reflect a pleasant view into the room. Check the view in the mirror from different angles to make sure you have the best placement.

Another great decorating tip is to place a mirror above a sideboard or console in a dining room. Placing some candles or candelabra in front of the mirror will create an atmosphere of warmth and a cozy ambiance for dining and conversation.  (Treasurecombers.net has some amazing candle holders!)

A few posts back there was some excellent information of how to hang a wall mirror.  Click here There are some wonderful tips for DIY and I would highly suggest reading it again, for some terrific information about hanging a wall mirror.

Buying a mirror is a great investment. You can move them around to create different effects or group a few mirrors together for a dramatic flair. A mirror can serve as the focal point of a room. Especially if it is an unusual or distinct design.

Of course, the mirror is the supreme ally of all my Feng Shui decorator friends. Use a well positioned mirror to deflect negative “Sha” energy from your home or to create the flow of “Chi” (Life force energy) throughout your house.

You will love the incredible selection of wall mirrors at Treasurecombers.net. Every style and taste is represented and you are sure to find the exact mirror you have been looking for.

Decorating with Wall Mirrors & Tips for Hanging Mirrors

With the holidays right around the corner, now is a good time to spruce up your home.  One of the easiest ways to get a new look is with wall mirrors.  Some of the best designers around recommend strategically placing mirrors in smaller rooms to obtain a larger feel.  You will also want to use frameless mirrors in low light areas to brighten the room with reflected light.  I’ve also noticed that in new homes, the designer are placing  large,  leaner mirrors in the master bedrooms, and wow what a difference,  the mirrors make the rooms look so luxurious.

The best part of all is how easy mirrors are to hang.  On the back of most of our mirrors you’ll find two D hooks (they will already be installed on the mirror) there will be a small package containing two J hooks with long nails ( the J hooks get nailed into the wall)

Ok, now I’ll give you my time saving tips and tools needed.

Things you’ll need:

  1. lipstick or chalk
  2. tape measure
  3. hammer
  4. small level (the level is not a must have but sure makes it easier)
  5. pencil

The first thing you need to do is figure out were you’ll be hanging your new mirror and how high.  Once thats accomplished grab your level and place it on the wall were the bottom of the mirror will be,  take the pencil and draw a line along the level.  Next take your lipstick and rub it on the D hooks that are already attached to the back of the mirror.  Pick the mirror up put the bottom on the pencil line you drew,  and press gently were the D hooks are,  now remove the mirror and you’ll see two lipstick marks.  Next take the J hooks place them were your lipstick outlines are grab your hammer and nail them in.  Hang your mirror and your done.  It really is that easy.  Best of luck to you and happy holidays!
