How to Decorate for Fall

Beautiful Tuscan Wall Hanging

Autumn is my favorite time of year. Being that the fall equinox is this Saturday, when the days and nights are of equal lengths, I thought I would give you some hints about seasonal design and how to balance the transition from one season to the next. I love summer and spring too, but the crisp, clear cerulean blue skies of autumn are so appealing. Maybe you have just painted your living room a new color? Fresh ripe apples, red and juicy, just waiting to be made into the first apple pie of the season along with pumpkins, squash and the lush colors of fall can really put a smile of my face and inspire me to bring the fall palette inside. I need a fall decorating update!

A new  floor lamp will give a cozy spot to curl up with a good book.

Get ready for family meals with a new dining table.

A luxurious, quilted leather headboard in ivory will completely give any bedroom an Autumn update.

C’est La Vie

Etoile French Country Chest

I’ll admit it; I’m a closet Francophile! For those of you unfamiliar with this term it means someone who loves all things French. I love their style, their “joie de vivre” (Joy of Life) and I positively wilt at the sound of a French accent. This includes accent tables, chests, cabinets and sideboards.

Tambour Teak Wood Media Cabinet Mid-Century Modern

I have recently noticed a new trend in French interior design.  The French, always chic and cutting edge where style and fashion are concerned are streamlining their elegant taste in décor once again.  Many of the local Parisiennes are updating the look of their apartments to be more sophisticated and less, well let’s say “rural”.

French Key Chest

I think my favorite design secret is to always buy what you absolutely love, no matter what style or period it may belong to.  A good, creative eye will make your pieces work together.  Blending traditional, antique or modern can say so much about your own personal style and who you are.

Of course, if you are like me, I want to live in France. Or maybe I would be happy in Tuscany, Italy like Frances Mayes, author of “Under the Tuscan Sun”.  Who wouldn’t  want to live in a lovely village where all your neighbors are connoisseurs of fine food and have exquisitely furnished homes?  Thank goodness Treasurecombers.net has a vast and constantly updated inventory of fabulous furniture. I can have my European atmosphere without leaving the US!

Wouldn’t this look amazing in my Paris apartement? If you scroll down to a previous blog, you will see this awesome  Arabesque rug that looks stunning under this French Key Everything Chest. This is also available at Treasurecombers.net.

I guess all this travel talk has me thinking about summer trips and vacations.  If you are involved in a family run business like us, travelling is always about business and fun. Here is my family sutra (a Sanskrit  word meaning thread) for this week:

If travelling for business or pleasure with family members, make sure to stock a cooler or hotel fridge with beer or wine, especially in the Southern States, where NO BEER SUNDAYS (this means ALL alcohol)means no alcohol  is  available anywhere on Sundays! This could cause “UNE  CATASTROPHE” , especially if you are French!

Happy Decorating!
