Decorating Trends for 2013

Every year the designers come up with new ideas, new colors and new trends for the season. So much of what they see is influenced by our contemporary lifestyles it can be a job in itself to keep up. No sooner is one thing in, then it’s on its way out. The trick is to look at your furniture like your wardrobe; buy a few really good pieces that you can accessorize in a simple and inexpensive way to always seem as if you are on the cutting edge of fashion and style, and you will be!

Here is a partial list of design trends for 2013 to get you started planning some interior design updates. Naturally, everything you could possibly need can be found at Treasurecombers.net.

Botanical and insect wall prints- you may remember last week’s blog on new wall art showed more of these lovely wall prints. Amazing, Affordable Hand Painted Art and Wall Prints

Themed rooms: French country, Old World and Tuscan themes are always in style- Creature comforts such as more artwork and statues to personalize a home are also in evidence for this year.

Sculpture can really personalize your living space.

Winter colors are a bit softer, woods are lighter in color and we are seeing a lot of light colored driftwood pieces in lamps, tables and art.

A “soft “contemporary category seems to take the harsh edge off some of the more industrial looking pieces. Using a soft, muted palette of light greys, ivory and off whites, as I was predicting in a past blog (Click Here) How to Decorate with a Neutral Palette. You can achieve a muted, toned down look to dark metal furniture and give it a homey feeling with lighter colored fabrics and drapery.

Look for more use of natural elements in furniture design such as bamboo, woven baskets, shells and especially mother of pearl components and less in the way of plastics manufactured materials.

I hope some of these new trends in decorating will inspire you to do a bit of updating around your home. There are so many wonderful ways to keep up with the trends that are fun and affordable. Treasurecombers is always your first stop in what’s new and exciting.

More on what’s new for 2013 soon.

Until next week,

Amazing, Affordable Hand Painted Art and Prints

Full Bloom Hand Painted Art

There’s an old saying that a house without art on the walls is a house without thoughts. Growing up, my Mother covered our walls with paintings and photos. Some were original, in their original frames and some were collected from garage sales, some of her art teachers (she was a fairly good painter in her own right) and “found objects”. Her mind was filled with a love for beauty and on a truly limited budget, she made our small, salt shaker house a home.

When I first saw some of the paintings and prints that Treasurecombers has for sale, I just couldn’t believe how exquisite they were! The prices were so affordable I am now making my list for all the fabulous art work I can use in my home. Here are just a few of the amazingly affordable pieces for you to get an idea of just how lovely their selection is and start making your own list of must haves.

One of the things I love about some of the art work at Treasurecombers is that so many of the pieces are already framed. You can spend as much or more having a painting framed as you paid for the painting! This is just another Wild Wonderful Buy!

From  landscapes, to groupings that look so wonderful in a bathroom or bedroom not to mention a main wall, modern and contemporary looks and old world style can all be found right at Treasurecombers.net

How to Decorate for Fall

Beautiful Tuscan Wall Hanging

Autumn is my favorite time of year. Being that the fall equinox is this Saturday, when the days and nights are of equal lengths, I thought I would give you some hints about seasonal design and how to balance the transition from one season to the next. I love summer and spring too, but the crisp, clear cerulean blue skies of autumn are so appealing. Maybe you have just painted your living room a new color? Fresh ripe apples, red and juicy, just waiting to be made into the first apple pie of the season along with pumpkins, squash and the lush colors of fall can really put a smile of my face and inspire me to bring the fall palette inside. I need a fall decorating update!

Change the color scheme in your bedroom from light, summer colors to deep, rich autumn tones of gold, brown, deep plum and taupe.

A new side table will create a new sense of space in a  living room, family room or even a bedroom.

A new  floor lamp will give a cozy spot to curl up with a good book.

Family dinners with friends and relatives will be a joy around this elegant, new dining table.

A luxurious, quilted leather headboard in ivory will completely give any bedroom an Autumn update.

A Blank Canvas

A blank canvas, or a blank wall can feel very intimidating, to say the least. When faced with a “table rasa”, or an empty slate, very few of us can come up with the perfect idea off the top of our heads. We need some inspiration and maybe a bit of interior decorator guidance. This is where Treasurecombers.net can be the one you turn to for great ideas to fill a blank wall space and trust it will turn out spectacularly!

A belated Happy Fourth of July to everyone, and to commemorate our nation’s birthday, here is the perfect vintage solution for an empty wall that needs some personality. This fabulous piece of Americana in sculpted metal creates a wonderful sense of patriotism for our nation’s history and looks stunning on any wall that needs some pop! The famous artist, Japser Johns is well known for his charming paintings of the American flag on wood and canvas. This piece of American folk art, albeit forged of metal, captures the same sense of history that Johns’ contemporary works are known for.

One way I like decorate an empty wall is with family photos. I love this wrought iron metal frame holder. It’s perfect for the family tree photos and a charming and easy way to display your family as a work of art.

Of course, we all tend to forget that our kitchens need art too! Here is a lovely piece that would add style to any dining or kitchen area.  This would even look great in a hall or entry way.

This elegant  oil painting from Treasurecombers.net could grace the mantel over a fireplace for a special effect. The delicious somber colors evoke the name of the painting, “Contemplation”.  A large wall in a great room or even a stairwell would accommodate this lovely work.

A plaque in metal or carved wood can really add a sense of drama. Here are two plaques that would liven up any unused wall space and turn it into a great focal point for over  a console or maybe even over a bed.

Some decorator tips for hanging paintings in the living room; make sure the paintings are not placed too high on the wall. Paintings should be at eye height when standing, and remember that you will be sitting in this room and a painting hung too high on the wall will look out of place.

If you are hanging a painting over a sofa, the rule of thumb is that painting should be two thirds the length of the sofa. For example, a nine foot long sofa should have a six foot long painting hung in the center of the sofa and a hand’s width above the back edge.

Check back next week for some new decorating tips, and please leave a comment. I love to hear from my readers!
