My Ultra Modern, Contemporary Bathroom Makeover

Clutter, tchotchkes, figurines and dare I say it, those dreaded Hummels leftover from Aunt Mary’s china cabinet that you have carted around with you since her funeral have just got to go! I long for clean lines, bold color, chrome and lots of it.

I have been fantasizing about what my home would look like if I could start fresh, decorate with a new vision that would include modern style and architectural élan. While contemplating a makeover in my bathroom, I came across these wonderful modern shower panels from Treasurecomber.net.

This is exactly the new update I have been searching for. Chrome shower panels that will update my bath and shower with the right look for my new contemporary bathroom.

We all go through stages of what we like and don’t like in fashion and design. Remember shoulder pads? You couldn’t buy a jacket or blouse without those awful, polyester foam atrocities attached to the tops of your upper arms and shoulders. Thankfully, designers and architects know how to keep up with the fashion trends and bring their visions to the market place so we can upgrade our design choices through their wonderful artistry and brilliance.

Here are a few examples of some wonderful shower panels that you can install in your bath. They do all sorts of fabulous things, such as create a rainfall effect, and incorporate swiveling massage water jets along with a handheld device just like European showers have with controls for water temperature and water pressure.

It’s easy to imagine yourself waking up to this state of the art shower not to mention what a great way to start your day.

Decorating tips for bathroom upgrades include choosing a color palette that will echo your contemporary designs. Choosing pale, monochrome walls and tiles will create a spacious, oriental look.

Bold colors like red or bright plum work well with brass and chrome bath fixtures.

Always remember, in modern and contemporary styling, less is more! Try not to over decorate. Let the clean, sweeping lines of modern design speak for itself. And if anyone asks what you did with Aunt Mary’s Hummels, just say you put them away for safekeeping, unless the person asking would just love to have them. In that case, let them go with your good wishes and know that the Universe loves order and until you make space, nothing new can come into your life.

Until next week,

Candle Power – Feel the Love

The week before last, much of the Midwest and Middle Atlantic States suffered a severe storm that left millions of people without power. While many folks were left in the dark, those of us who LOVE candles, were relishing our quiet and peaceful ambiance with dinner by candlelight, the romance of subdued lighting and our features enhanced by the subtle glow of a softly lit room. The battery powered radio played some mellow jazz or maybe some classical piece we had heard long ago. Even the most unromantic of husbands or boyfriends will succumb to a candlelit dinner when all else fails. If it takes a power outage to feel the love, so be it!

Candles will suit just about any room in your home.  Candles and candelabras can fit anywhere that needs a bit of decoration or that final touch to finish the look of a space. The wonderful thing about candle holders and candelabras is they can be used as decorative objects in the daytime and add a thoughtful look of elegance even when you aren’t burning candles. On the other hand, you can never have too many candleholders or candelabras in every room of your home. Here are some of my favorites from Treasurecombers.net

I absolutely adore this candelabra. What a dramatic and sensual focal point for a great room or a dining area. The effect is truly stunning! A pair of them is even more effective.

If you have small children or animals, please follow all the necessary precautions. Treasurecombers.net has so many lovely enclosed candle holders to choose from, you don’t have to sacrifice the ambiance and heady glow of candles for safety concerns.  Here are some lovely enclosed candle holders as well as the must have Hurricane candle holders, a pre-requisite for any outdoor  al fresco dining, no matter what the weather.

Another favorite way to use candles as purposeful decorating tools is to light a candelabra in front of or IN your fireplace in the summertime. It gives the effect of a warm, glowing fire in warm weather, without the heat. It’s a great way to show off a fireplace in the off season.

Check out this fabulous candelabra fireplace screen from Treasurecombers.net

Doesn’t this summertime fireplace look fantastic? The added twinkle of the metal branches with led lighting makes the whole space electric!

You can never have too many candles, and while the NOAA predicts we may be seeing more blackouts than ever due to the increased Solar flare activity of our Grandfather Sun, it is a good idea to stock up on candles, candle holders, batteries for your radios, and some pantry items for a romantic dinner just in case. Hurricane season is here, and August and September may bring a few storms our way. Being prepared in style is so much more pleasant than suffering through a power outage grumbling and complaining. Why not embrace the Earth Changes we are experiencing with elegance and a sense of adventure. Keeping the home fires burning until next week,

Getting Creative with Wall Mirrors

Mirrors are not just for the bathroom and bedroom. There are so many great ways to utilize wall mirrors in decorating. Some of my favorite uses for a well chosen wall mirror or a grouping of mirrors start with the entryway or vestibule.  This is the perfect spot for a mirror like this one.

Right away you set the style and tone of your home. The first thing you see when you enter your home is a well put together space that says a lot about who you are.  Choose a style that goes with the rest of your décor and makes a statement about the inhabitants of this home.

Perhaps you are more conventional. These mirrors with their simple rectangular or round shapes are the choice for you.

Decorating a vacation cabin or a beach house? Try these fabulous nature inspired mirrors from Treasurecombers.net. I love the birch bark edging on this one. I can see this hanging over the stone fireplace or in the wood paneled bath.

Shells are so glamorous. Nature’s outdoor décor, if you will. This is a great mirror for a bathroom, or a nautical inspired themed bedroom or living room.

Some great decorator’s tips include using a mirror for a dark room to bring in more light and visually double the space. Always be sure to check the reflection of the mirror too. You want to reflect a pleasant view into the room. Check the view in the mirror from different angles to make sure you have the best placement.

Another great decorating tip is to place a mirror above a sideboard or console in a dining room. Placing some candles or candelabra in front of the mirror will create an atmosphere of warmth and a cozy ambiance for dining and conversation.  (Treasurecombers.net has some amazing candle holders!)

A few posts back there was some excellent information of how to hang a wall mirror.  Click here There are some wonderful tips for DIY and I would highly suggest reading it again, for some terrific information about hanging a wall mirror.

Buying a mirror is a great investment. You can move them around to create different effects or group a few mirrors together for a dramatic flair. A mirror can serve as the focal point of a room. Especially if it is an unusual or distinct design.

Of course, the mirror is the supreme ally of all my Feng Shui decorator friends. Use a well positioned mirror to deflect negative “Sha” energy from your home or to create the flow of “Chi” (Life force energy) throughout your house.

You will love the incredible selection of wall mirrors at Treasurecombers.net. Every style and taste is represented and you are sure to find the exact mirror you have been looking for.

Until next week,

A Blank Canvas

A blank canvas, or a blank wall can feel very intimidating, to say the least. When faced with a “table rasa”, or an empty slate, very few of us can come up with the perfect idea off the top of our heads. We need some inspiration and maybe a bit of interior decorator guidance. This is where Treasurecombers.net can be the one you turn to for great ideas to fill a blank wall space and trust it will turn out spectacularly!

A belated Happy Fourth of July to everyone, and to commemorate our nation’s birthday, here is the perfect vintage solution for an empty wall that needs some personality. This fabulous piece of Americana in sculpted metal creates a wonderful sense of patriotism for our nation’s history and looks stunning on any wall that needs some pop! The famous artist, Japser Johns is well known for his charming paintings of the American flag on wood and canvas. This piece of American folk art, albeit forged of metal, captures the same sense of history that Johns’ contemporary works are known for.

One way I like decorate an empty wall is with family photos. I love this wrought iron metal frame holder. It’s perfect for the family tree photos and a charming and easy way to display your family as a work of art.

Of course, we all tend to forget that our kitchens need art too! Here is a lovely piece that would add style to any dining or kitchen area.  This would even look great in a hall or entry way.

This elegant  oil painting from Treasurecombers.net could grace the mantel over a fireplace for a special effect. The delicious somber colors evoke the name of the painting, “Contemplation”.  A large wall in a great room or even a stairwell would accommodate this lovely work.

A plaque in metal or carved wood can really add a sense of drama. Here are two plaques that would liven up any unused wall space and turn it into a great focal point for over  a console or maybe even over a bed.

Some decorator tips for hanging paintings in the living room; make sure the paintings are not placed too high on the wall. Paintings should be at eye height when standing, and remember that you will be sitting in this room and a painting hung too high on the wall will look out of place.

If you are hanging a painting over a sofa, the rule of thumb is that painting should be two thirds the length of the sofa. For example, a nine foot long sofa should have a six foot long painting hung in the center of the sofa and a hand’s width above the back edge.

Check back next week for some new decorating tips, and please leave a comment. I love to hear from my readers!
