The Essential Desk

The end of the summer seems to conjure up those childhood feelings of going back to school: the first day of school, the first day of college, buying new books, getting a brand new haircut, shopping for new shoes and new clothes fill our last days of August with excited preparations. For me, I start to feel a need to get organized, clear out the clutter and re-assess my furniture and wardrobe. Autumn is just around the corner, the daylight is tilting at a lower angle in the sky, days are a tad shorter and my nesting instincts have me fantasizing about painting the living room sage green, wallpapering the bathroom and buying new furniture for every room! A most important decision is choosing the proper desk. This time of year a place to write a thank you note, organize my snail mail or just enjoy a private work space is essential to me. Finding the appropriate desk just got a lot easier with these lovely choices from Treasurecombers.net. Picture yourself seated at this fabulous writing desk of antique pecan with a box of handsome stationary writing those sentimental birthday cards and sending hand written invitations for your next intimate dinner party. Get inspired to get organized with these elegant brass handled drawers. Staying organized just got a lot easier. I love the fact that this Green Pear writing desk is made from sustainable, plantation grown  mango wood. Eco-friendly and beautiful are the qualities that make purchasing this functional and stylish piece an easy decision.

Modern styling like this Open Block writing desk really speaks to my sense of less is more. The clean lines, the sense of spaciousness and an uncluttered place to work is just what I need to attend to those writing and organizing tasks. If ever I needed some inspiration to tackle all those writing projects I put off all summer, this is the desk that I would choose.

More sustainable, plantation raised mango wood is used for this truly lovely console style desk. Don’t you just love the graceful turn of the legs of this desk?  A traditional style, yet a perfect piece that will blend with lots of different decors. The three drawer arrangement works to keep everything organized.

This Taupe Faux Shagreen writing desk is the absolute perfect solution for a college dorm or teen bedroom. Doubling as a vanity table or a writing and work space for your college bound student, this is what I would be taking into the dorm!  The hidden center drawer will hold all your make up or notebooks, pens and rulers.

Somehow, we are all sad to see the summer fun come to an end, but the anticipation of new beginnings, new experiences and especially new furniture energize us and help us look forward to a productive fall and  the ever enjoyable Harvest season.

Wishing you success for an easy transition into Fall, until next week,

Happy Decorating!

The Eco-Friendly Coffee Table

Mango Coffee Table

We all know that caring for our Mother Earth has become an important responsibility for all of us. Leaving a polluted and toxic planet for our children and grandchildren is unacceptable. Here is a wonderful way to contribute to a greener world without upsetting your budget.  Responsible manufacturers are making great strides in bringing beautifully designed furniture to the market place at affordable prices. Mango wood, for example is a renewable resource and as it turns out, makes incredibly wonderful furniture. These pieces are truly Wild, Wonderful Buys!

Find a decorator who is familiar with eco-friendly manufacturers. Then proceed to find the perfect coffee table to complete your new living room or family room decor. Here is another of my favorite examples of  a mango wood coffee table from Treasurecombers.net

More eco-friendly coffee tables are available from reclaimed wood sources. Many times, builders who are involved in renovating old homes find fabulous wood that they can recycle.  Making furniture from reclaimed wood helps save our precious trees and forests.  Did you know that it takes 12 trees to produce enough oxygen for each person to survive and thrive on our planet? That’s an amazing fact when you consider how little respect and reverence most of us have for these natural givers of our very existence; our breath! You can live without food for a couple of weeks, without water for a few days, but without air only a few minutes.

Black Eco-friendly Coffee Table

Here is a lovely example of a plantation grown hardwood that takes the frumpy, out of “green”. So often people think green means letting go of elegance or style. This coffee table definitely gives a new meaning to sustainable!

Remember to consider our planet when you make any type of  purchase.   Keeping as many toxins and pollutants out of our environment can only add up to a more healthy place for all of us.

My green “family” tip for this week is:

No matter what the situation, being polite is always  the best way to resolve any crisis. You can say anything to anyone as long as it is respectful, sincere and polite.

Happy “Green” Decorating!
