Candle Power – Feel the Love

The week before last, much of the Midwest and Middle Atlantic States suffered a severe storm that left millions of people without power. While many folks were left in the dark, those of us who LOVE candles, were relishing our quiet and peaceful ambiance with dinner by candlelight, the romance of subdued lighting and our features enhanced by the subtle glow of a softly lit room. The battery powered radio played some mellow jazz or maybe some classical piece we had heard long ago. Even the most unromantic of husbands or boyfriends will succumb to a candlelit dinner when all else fails. If it takes a power outage to feel the love, so be it!

Candles will suit just about any room in your home.  Candles and candelabras can fit anywhere that needs a bit of decoration or that final touch to finish the look of a space. The wonderful thing about candle holders and candelabras is they can be used as decorative objects in the daytime and add a thoughtful look of elegance even when you aren’t burning candles. On the other hand, you can never have too many candleholders or candelabras in every room of your home. Here are some of my favorites from Treasurecombers.net

I absolutely adore this candelabra. What a dramatic and sensual focal point for a great room or a dining area. The effect is truly stunning! A pair of them is even more effective.

If you have small children or animals, please follow all the necessary precautions. Treasurecombers.net has so many lovely enclosed candle holders to choose from, you don’t have to sacrifice the ambiance and heady glow of candles for safety concerns.  Here are some lovely enclosed candle holders as well as the must have Hurricane candle holders, a pre-requisite for any outdoor  al fresco dining, no matter what the weather.

Another favorite way to use candles as purposeful decorating tools is to light a candelabra in front of or IN your fireplace in the summertime. It gives the effect of a warm, glowing fire in warm weather, without the heat. It’s a great way to show off a fireplace in the off season.

Doesn’t this summertime fireplace look fantastic? The added twinkle of the metal branches with led lighting makes the whole space electric!

You can never have too many candles, and while the NOAA predicts we may be seeing more blackouts than ever due to the increased Solar flare activity of our Grandfather Sun, it is a good idea to stock up on candles, candle holders, batteries for your radios, and some pantry items for a romantic dinner just in case. Hurricane season is here, and August and September may bring a few storms our way. Being prepared in style is so much more pleasant than suffering through a power outage grumbling and complaining. Why not embrace the Earth Changes we are experiencing with elegance and a sense of adventure. Keeping the home fires burning until next week,

Happy Decorating!

It’s A Dog’s Life

What do you do when you LOVE decorating your home with stylish furniture and lovely treasures, but you also love your dogs and pets? I know you would love to have a white sofa, but you absolutely know that your black lab will love it too! The solution is at hand. Finding a fabulous, enticing, irresistible dog bed is the perfect answer to this common dilemma among pet owners who love their pets.

My dogs are loving the new pet beds we just got in stock last week here at Treasurecombers.net.  In fact, they don’t particularly care to move at all from their new lairs. All they want to do is sleep and eat; it’s a dog’s life. What a wonderful way to save the furniture and keep your animal companions happy and content. Not to mention these amazingly stylish and chic pet beds that will compliment even the most upscale, shi-shi designer rooms.

Any pet owner will tell you, their pets are like people and they love them and consider them members of their family. Speaking of family, I believe I promised you some tips about family run businesses in last week’s blog.

Here is my business “sutra” ( sanskrit for thread of wisdom) for the week about working in a family run business:

Make the time to compliment a family member on what a great job they are doing. A little praise can go a long way. Forgive and let go of any past resentments. Your heart will sing!

If you are fortunate enough to have your family pets in your work place, make sure you take the time to acknowledge their presence. Take a 10 minute break and play with your pets. You will both get a tremendous benefit. Pets and a loving disposition are one of the best stress reducers there is. Until next week,

Happy Decorating!

What You Need To Know Before You Buy A Chandelier

What size chandelier do I get for my dining room?

The easiest way to choose the correct size is to choose a chandelier with a diameter equal to 1/2 (one-half) the width of your table.  For example, if you have a 62″ diameter table then choose a chandelier that is no more than 31″ in diameter.  It is better to go a little smaller than a little larger if needed.  Sticking closely to the formula will give you a balanced look.

How high above a table should the chandelier be hung?

The chandelier should be hung so that the bottom is between 30″ to 32″ above the tabletop.

How do I choose the right size chandelier or light fixture for a room without a dining table?

To determine what size of a chandelier would fit best in any room use this simple formula. Simply add the room dimensions together. For example, if your foyer is 12′ by 16,’ add 12 + 16 = 28. The proper size chandelier for this foyer would be 28″ in diameter. If your room dimensions were 8’ by 10’, your maximum diameter would be 18”.

Now that I know how large the light fixture needs to be, how do I determine the correct amount of wattage to properly illuminate a room? Is this also based on room size?

Yes the correct wattage is based on room size. To find the proper ambient lighting for the room, multiply the room dimensions to get your total square footage (12 x 16 = 192). Then multiply the total square footage by 1.5 for total illumination needed (192 x 1.5 = 288 watts). Remember this total can be achieved by several methods of lighting. You are better off spreading the wattage around than have it all come from a single light source. Remember too that if the space is workspace, additional task lighting may also be called for in certain area(s) of the room.
